Forty years experience in Transmission Engineering, initially as an articled pupil of Wales Gas Board, subsequently appointed as Project Engineer. Responsibilities included planning, construction and commissioning of pipelines and associated installations.
As Pipelines Operations Engineer in British Gas responsible for approval of all operational procedures, modifications to the system, preparation of budgets and control of revenue expenditure. Later appointed Pipelines Operations Manager, with responsibilities to the Director of Operations for the fitness for purpose and maintenance of 6000 Kms of high-pressure National Transmission System (NTS) pipelines and associated installations, including management of engineering, IT and administrative staff and acceptance of new assets.
Established Pipeline Integrity Engineers Ltd (PIE) in
1998 which provides consultancy and fitness for purpose services relating
to the whole life cycle of pipelines, including pipeline design, construction,
testing and operation and maintenance.

Thirteen years employed at the British Gas Engineering Research Station, initially involved in pipework / pipeline stress analysis and 3D FEA. Later responsible for managing a team of specialist engineers, covering defect assessment, stress analysis and technical input into developing codes such as TD/1, TD/12 and BSI PD 6493. Subsequently, Divisional Manager for Engineering Sciences Group, with management responsibility for 55 specialist engineers.
Five years experience as Network Maintenance Manager in Transco, responsible for the provision of a comprehensive technical and engineering support to Transco North Area Districts, covering Network Integrity and Operational Support, with lead national responsibility for the steel pipelines and pressure systems.
Two years experience as Engineering Manager, responsible for technical direction of specialist Transmission and E&I staff.
Six years experience as Principal Consultant (current position), responsible for quality and delivery of technical work for clients related to pipeline i) integrity, fitness for purpose, tolerability of risk, ii) emergency plans , procedures and requirements, iii) actions for legislative compliance iv) regulation.
